Marching Towards Change: Combating Violence Against Women in Luxembourg

Take Back the Night 2024

LUX WMN Magazine, in partnership with ING Luxembourg, is proud to announce Take Back the Night, a powerful event aimed at raising awareness about violence against women and igniting meaningful change within our community.

Scheduled for March 21st, 2024, Take Back the Night is set to be an evening of solidarity, empowerment, and advocacy. Supported by our sponsors & partners POST Luxembourg, Ville de Luxembourg, KPMG Luxembourg, Vodafone, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Diversity, Femmes en Détresse and AMCHAM Luxembourg the event promises to be a poignant demonstration of collective resolve in addressing the pervasive issue of gender-based violence.

The event will feature a symbolic march through Luxembourg City, culminating at the Glacis car park, where participants will gather for speeches from community leaders. DJ Miss Sappho will provide music, while information tables from various organisations and food trucks will further enhance the atmosphere of unity and awareness.

“At its core, ‘Take Back the Night’ is a rallying cry for change,” says Amanda Roberts, Founder of LUX WMN. “It’s a call to action for all members of society to stand in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence and to work towards a future where safety and respect are the birthright of every woman”.

50% of ticket sales will be donated to Femmes en Détresse, a local organisation dedicated to supporting women affected by violence. Participants can register for free or purchase tickets. Paid tickets support the organisation of the evening and include an event t-shirt and a donation to Femmes en Détresse.

20% of women aged 16 to 74 in Luxembourg have been affected by acts of physical, sexual or psychological violence. These are only the victims that we know of. Just together we are strong, and the commitment of every person or business to this cause reflects a shared vision of a safer, more equitable world for all.

About the initiative:

In Luxembourg, the term “Femicide,” the act of deliberately killing a woman motivated by sex-based hate, is not recognised as a crime in its own right. Take Back the Night is intended to raise awareness of the violence that women & young girls are facing in Luxembourg but also around the world. This event seeks to be a catalyst for change by spreading the word and making more people aware of gender-based violence.

About LUX WMN:

LUX WMN strives to be a catalyst for positive change and gender equity in Luxembourg & beyond by giving women a voice in media by featuring them as experts, writers and leaders in their field; building an inclusive community for the exchange of ideas and experiences; providing mentorship and examples of women at the top.
LUX WMN also runs a professional club for women. We are creating a strong community of women (and allies) to support women in making connections, sharing ideas & resources and growing in their personal and professional lives.
