As Luxembourg’s first cider company, Ramborn is working to revive the tradition of cider-making, putting good use to the otherwise wasted fruit, and breathing new life into traditional orchards throughout the country. Ramborn is proud to be a Certified B Corporation since 2021. The company was created on the belief that business can and should be a force for good in our world, borrowing many principles of what people know as “circular economy”. The sale of Ramborn award-winning products provides the financial resources to protect, maintain and revitalize these magnificent treasure-troves of biodiversity that once made up countless local orchards in and around Luxembourg.
People have been fermenting juice from traditional apples and pears in the region at least as far back as the Romans (producing their very own cider, known locally as “Viez”), but over the last century, this tradition has been in decline, with much of the fruit going to waste. By reviving this tradition, Ramborn only ferments the freshly pressed juice of apples and pears grown exclusively in traditional orchards of large, standard trees. No concentrate. No industrial plantations.
Today the company works with more than 100 farmers to restore, maintain, and improve traditional orchards, paying a fair price for their fruit. These orchards are a vital source of biodiversity; they are Europe’s rainforests in need of protection.
Ramborn’s cidery is implanted in an 18th century farm, entirely renovated, at the heart of the Sûre Valley. Public visits are organized every week and the venue is also open for hire for private and corporate events with many different setting possibilities.
