Demokratesch Partei
(L-R: Gusty Graas, Jana Degrott, Charles Goerens, Amela Skenderović, Nancy Braun, Christos Floros)
Please give our readers the 3-5 most important reasons they should vote for your party.
Our party is committed to strengthening Europe in many ways so that it can protect its citizens in troubled times:
We are committed to promoting a competitive, resilient and sustainable economy that creates jobs. Our aim is to ensure that no new administrative hurdles are introduced until we have a comprehensive strategy to significantly reduce red tape and make it easier for businesses and individuals to thrive. To this end, we propose that the European Commission should appoint a Commissioner with the sole responsibility of overseeing this process.
European integration is crucial to the EU’s ability to act effectively on the world stage and to defend our fundamental values. We will therefore push for deeper integration and further strengthening of our institutions. Effective sanctions must be put in place against Member States that fail to uphold the rule of law. This commitment is essential to preserve the integrity and credibility of the EU. We also support the gradual accession of new Member States.
Time is of the essence in building a robust European defence framework. We want to accelerate the development of a coherent defence strategy and improve technical and organisational cooperation between armed forces across Europe. This cooperation is essential for our collective security and resilience.
We are committed to an unprecedented effort to generate renewable energy, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and accelerate our transition to a sustainable future. The further development of our infrastructure, such as improving rail connections to and from Luxembourg and increasing the availability of night trains, is also a top priority.
By focusing on these core areas, we aim to create a stronger, more united and forward-looking Europe for the benefit of all its citizens.
If your party is given a mandate to the EU Parliament in this coming election, what factions would you work with? Are there any you would not work with at all?
Our primary objective is to work with all political groups in the European Parliament who are committed to finding solutions and compromises to address today’s most pressing issues. We believe that cooperation and dialogue are essential to tackle the complex challenges we face and that anything less would be irresponsible.
However, the Democratic Party (DP) is firmly committed to upholding the rule of law and European values. That is why we will not engage with far-right groups that undermine these principles. Our focus is on building a stronger, more united Europe through constructive partnerships with those who share our commitment to democracy, human rights and the common good.
By working with like-minded groups, we aim to develop policies that benefit all European citizens and ensure a prosperous and secure future for the EU.
How are the objectives of the DP for the European elections aligned with the best interest of Luxembourg?
What is good for the European Union is also good for Luxembourg. That’s why we need a pro-European and responsible European Parliament, ready to tackle today’s most pressing issues. The European single market, for example, brings immense economic benefits by allowing our businesses to prosper without barriers, directly boosting Luxembourg’s economy. Visa-free travel within the Schengen area ensures seamless movement for our citizens, enhancing their personal and professional opportunities. In addition, the Erasmus+ programme provides invaluable educational and cultural experiences to young people.
Europe is first and foremost a peace project that has brought remarkable benefits to its citizens. This achievement must be supported and developed to ensure continued prosperity and security. A strong and united Europe benefits all its members, including Luxembourg, by addressing common challenges and seizing common opportunities. We are committed to ensuring that this vision is realised for the benefit of all.
CSV
(L-R: Christophe Hansen, Guy Breden, Isabel Wiseler, Martine Kemp, Melanie Gruen, Metty Steinmetz)
Please give our readers the 3-5 most important reasons they should vote for your party.
As the European party par excellence in Luxembourg the CSV understands that prosperity, security and democracy are not possible in our country without a united Europe and a strong EU. Luxembourg’s prosperity and quality of life are closely linked to the development of the European Union and in particular with the four fundamental freedoms and the resulting single market. We support a fully integrated EU single market that creates robust jobs, research and innovation and allows our companies to compete in the global economy. We stand for a reduction in administrative and regulatory burden to allow companies to prosper.
The EU must also take responsibility in ensuring its own security, the peace project must become a force for peace. The war in Ukraine has made evident that the EU needs to step up its defense policy. We stand for a genuine EU defense policy, in coordination with NATO, and with an EU Commissioner dedicated to defense. Security of energy supply is also a main issue and we want a more integrated energy market and more focus on renewables, while allowing countries to continue to choose their own energy mix.
The EU must also remain a community of values. Therefore, we must ensure the rule of law is respected by all Member States. We also advocate for a Europe that secures our way of life and our social welfare model. We want an EU with strong borders and open doors, with a migration policy based on heart and common sense. Europe also needs to continue to export its values throughout the world. To be more reactive, we need advocate for dropping unanimity in foreign policy decisions.
If your party is given a mandate to the EU Parliament in this coming election, what faction will you be aligned with and what are the overall objectives of that faction for the period of the mandate?
The CSV is a member of the European People’s Party (EPP), the largest political group in the European Parliament. The EPP is the driver of EU integration and the force of the center in the EU parliament. The EPP’s priorities are aligned with those of the CSV, with prosperity, security, strength and sustainability at the forefront. Together with the lead candidate for the mandate of President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, we will strive to remain the strongest group in the European Parliament and help Mrs. von der Leyen secure a second mandate at the helm of the Commission.
Is your party in complete agreement with your preferred faction’s objectives and how are those objectives aligned with the best intertest of Luxembourg?
As members of the European Parliament, we work towards improving the EU, while making sure EU regulation is workable and useful for Luxembourg. MEPs from other countries do the same and sometimes these interests conflict within the same political group. This is a normal dynamic within the European Parliament and not exclusive to the EPP group. We are fortunate to be members of the EPP as we share common goals: an EU economy based on the model of a social market economy, an internal market that is good for business and for SMEs, an EU that protects without falling into the trap of protectionism, and a climate policy based on common sense instead of ideology
LSAP
(L-R: Liz Braz, Franz Fayot, Danielle Filbig, Marc Angel, Michaela Morrisova, Mars Di Bartolomeo)
Please give our readers the 3-5 most important reasons they should vote for your party.
- Ensure that digital and climate transitions are socially just, allowing everyone to seize new opportunities.
- Strengthen the social dimension of the EU to guarantee a high standard of living for Europeans and protect workers and their rights in a changing workplace, particularly by regulating the negative impacts of new technologies and investing in upskilling and reskilling.
- Continue to combat climate change and protect biodiversity.
- Advocate for a progressive industrial policy to make Europe a leader in the manufacturing and deployment of net-zero technologies.
- Resolutely protect our values and democracy by categorically rejecting alliances with far-right and right-wing populist parties.
If your party is given a mandate to the EU Parliament in this coming election, what faction will you be aligned with and what are the overall objectives of that faction for the period of the mandate?
- We will align with the Socialists & Democrats (S&D), the political group the LSAP has historically been a part of. Our overall objectives include working towards a more social, sustainable, and democratic Europe.
Is your party in complete agreement with your preferred faction’s objectives and how are those objectives aligned with the best interests of Luxembourg?
- Yes, the LSAP strongly agrees with the S&D’s vision. Many challenges we face, such as climate change, digitalisation, and security threats, are common challenges that no single Member State can solve alone. Luxembourg has greatly benefitted from the European Union. Luxembourgers will continue to thrive in a strong and resilient EU with a robust Single Market adapted to modern times, an EU that prioritizes the well-being of its citizens through strong social policies, seriously addresses climate change, and creates the conditions for a strong economy and future-oriented industry.
déi gréng
(L-R:) Tilly Metz, Fabricio Costa, François Bausch, Djuna Bernard, Chantal Gary, Patrick Hurst
Please give our readers the 3-5 most important reasons they should vote for your party.
With a war on our continent and multiple crises affecting our societies, a strong, just and united Europe is more important than ever. We want to invest in a social and sustainable European economy that will benefit everyone, not just a few. By shifting the tax burden to polluters and the ultra-rich, we want to fight against rising inequalities and prevent poverty.
We also want to see an economic union that is a champion in climate and environmental protection and sets international standards in these areas. The climate crisis is not becoming less urgent and therefore we need to continue to invest in the Green Deal and set policies that are in line with scientific recommendations and the Paris agreement.
In recent years, far-right parties are gaining influence with their tried and tested tactics of spreading half-truths and scapegoating minorities. Even moderate conservatives are opening the door to undemocratic forces that threaten the rule of law. We are resolutely opposed to this. A vote for déi gréng is a vote for the protection of our basic rights and freedoms such as gender equality, the right to abortion and the right to freely express sexuality.
If your party is given a mandate to the EU Parliament in this coming election, what faction will you be aligned with and what are the overall objectives of that faction for the period of the mandate?
Déi gréng will be part of the Greens/EFA group of the European Parliament as we have been in the past mandates. Greens/EFA is a driving force in the European Parliament and together we are fighting to make Europe the global leader in terms of climate and environmental protection, peace and social justice and in the fight for human rights.
Thanks to the green wave in the last European elections, the Commission this mandate presented its Green Deal, a big package of environment and climate legislation setting the goal of climate neutrality. During the next mandate, we need to make sure that the legislation that was adopted during this mandate is properly implemented and not watered- down by conservative parties and the far-right.
We will also continue to fight for social justice, as climate protection and social equality go hand in hand. Together with progressive and pro-European forces in the European Parliament, we will fight for a social Europe that leaves no-one behind. It should not be those with the smallest pockets that bear the biggest burden of climate policies. Workers deserve to have fair wages and everyone should have access to affordable housing.
Is your party in complete agreement with your preferred faction’s objectives and how are those objectives aligned with the best interest of Luxembourg?
Yes, we share the values of the Greens in the European Parliament. In fact, the Greens/EFA group is the faction that has the highest cohesion, our group is the most consistent in its voting behaviour. That’s why our impact is much bigger than our representation in numbers and we generally punch above our weight.
As a small country in the middle of Europe, Luxembourg benefits enormously from the European single market and the free movement of goods, services, people and capital. It is therefore important to defend this achievement.
The climate crisis, rising costs of living and threats against our democracies are seen all over Europe and in Luxembourg. These are key challenges of today and tomorrow. We want to see a sustainable, social and economically strong Europe that deals with these challenges so we can create a future worth living in Europe and in Luxembourg.
ADR
(L-R:) Sylvie Mischel, Nicky Stoffel, Jeff Engelen, Fernand Kartheiser, Alexandra Schoos, Alex Penning
Please give our readers the 3-5 most important reasons they should vote for your party.
ADR is differentiating itself on a number of important issues from other major political parties. We are for instance, advocating a negotiated settlement of the crisis in Ukraine whereas others continue to support a purely military approach. We want to deepen European integration, but we have chosen to do so with a model based on Nation-States keeping their sovereign rights rather than with a federal model. Our model suits Europe better for a number of historical and cultural reasons. It is clear that we would never give up Luxembourg’s veto right in foreign policy or taxation issues. We are supporting asylum for those who do need international protection but, at the same time, we fight illegal immigration with strong determination. We protect free speech and do not accept restrictions on the ground of shaky and arbitrary concepts such as “fake news” or “hate speech”. We would reform the “green deal” and are, for instance, strictly against the phasing out of the internal combustion engine. We are also open to all sources of energy and don’t focus exclusively on renewable energies. This list could be continued.
If your party is given a mandate to the EU Parliament in this coming election, what faction will you be aligned with and what are the overall objectives of that faction for the period of the mandate?
ADR is a member of the ECR party (European Conservatives and Reformists) and would therefore join the ECR group in the European Parliament. The ECR is very much focused on keeping sovereign states alive and combatting federalism. It also emphasizes free trade and open markets, concepts that are important for ADR which is pursuing a – in the European sense of the word – liberal economic policy. Close relations with the US, Canada and the UK are also part of our common agenda.
Is your party in complete agreement with your preferred faction’s objectives and how are those objectives aligned with the best interest of Luxembourg?
On one precise issue, ADR is insisting on its own approach and that is Ukraine. Most of the other member parties of ECR still continue –for the time being − to give priority to a military approach. The overall aims of ECR suit Luxembourg very well. Our economy needs a large internal market with a maximum of economic integration and freedom. We are committed to further improving the scope and functioning of the internal market.
Pirate Party
(L-R: Rebecca Lau, Starsky Flor, Raymond Remakel, Lucy Agostini, Vincenzo Turcarelli, Nadine Do Carmo)
Please give our readers the 3-5 most important reasons they should vote for your party.
The Pirates are a party that approaches politics differently than other parties. We stand for new solutions, more freedom, fewer prohibitions, more citizens’ participation as well as a sustainable and liveable future for humans, animals and our nature.
If your party is given a mandate to the EU Parliament in this coming election, what faction will you be aligned with and what are the overall objectives of that faction for the period of the mandate?
For the past years our party was aligned with the Greens/EFA Group. Their overall objectives are coherent with our national claims: improve and guarantee transparency of European bodies, promote an economic, social and environmental sustainable future, promote digitalization while still guaranteeing privacy rights, ensure democracy and citizens participation and a real social Union that puts health and well-being at the heart of our society.
Is your party in complete agreement with your preferred faction’s objectives and how are those objectives aligned with the best interest of Luxembourg?
Our party agrees on the general priorities set by the Greens/EFA Group. Many objectives are aligned with our demands and ambitions on a national level, most recently summed up in our national election program last October. The following examples show the coherency between the different objectives: promoting citizens participation and increasing the transparency level lead to a greater involvement of residents in Luxembourg, promoting innovative solutions and the use of renewable energies can help decrease energy prices for everyone, and an incentive rather than a prohibitionist policy will help our economic model in Luxembourg through the attraction of new companies and job creation.
