Dear AmCham Members, Partners and Friends,
We hope you all have enjoyed a good summer break and are pleased to welcome you back to our digital Newsletter.
As we start into the Fall, we are very honored and pleased to offer to you the English language translation of the State of the Union 2024 address we have received from Prime Minister Luc Frieden. Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister, for sharing this information with our audience in the language we best understand! I trust all of our readers will read this address and appreciate being informed on the current state of national affairs as well as the challenges Luxembourg faces going forward and the plans of the government to address those challenges.
Over the Summer, I was very pleased to be invited by Geoff Thompson to travel to Wisconsin to support him as he made a documentary movie about the Luxembourg Heritage days annual week long festival celebration there. I had a great time and was amazed to learn there are now more people of Luxembourg heritage living in Michigan and Wisconsin than are living in Luxembourg! Not only that, but these people are very passionate and loyal to Luxembourg, with many having already, or working toward, regaining their Luxembourg citizenship. Thanks Geoff! You can count on the AmCham community looking forward to attending the presentation of the film you are editing and plan to premiere on 27 September at 19:00 at Ciné Utopia in the context of the British and Irish Film Festival Luxembourg! and 30 September at 20:00 at Kinoler. In fact, we have five pairs of tickets to give away. If you wish to attend, please send an email to communication@amcham.lu with the subject line: Free movie tickets and leave us your full name and a way to contact you.
Dear readers, you will see in this issue a very strong AmCham Fall program of events. My sincere thanks to Daniel, Miriam, Thierry, Anne and Sonja for their hard (and smart ) work for putting this program together. Please have a look at the full range of events we are planning to present for your information, enjoyment and networking!
If someone reading this Newsletter is not a member or partner, please contact me, Daniel, Sonja or the sales team of Jean-Claude and Carlos. We will be happy you give you a warm welcome and have a good conversation sharing all of our information with you and answering any questions you may have.
We have grown over the years to be the largest and most active private Chamber of Commerce by working hard to support and serve our members and friends. Our member companies are 30% US origin, 20% Luxembourg origin and 50% companies from all over the world. We are proud to be an international melting pot in service to you all… join us!
As you all are aware, the US will hold presidential elections on 5 November.
While AmCham is non-partisan (but pro business!) we think democracy works best if citizens are informed and actively involved. On that basis, we support the 25 September evening debate being put on by the local chapters of the Democrats and Republicans abroad. We have encouraged these two political groups to put on a policy focused debate which shows what they agree and disagree on. The event will take place at the Luxembourg University (UNI) Limpertsberg Campus, Amphitheater room. The official announcement and sign-ups will be on our website by Friday and we encourage people to attend and participate. We hope you will join us!
With respect and all best wishes,
Paul Schonenberg
