Dear Colleagues and friends, welcome to your AMCHAM Newsletter 57! We are delighted to have the opportunity to present to you our excellent interview with Steve Collar, the dynamic CEO of SES!
Many of us here in Luxembourg are proud to boast that Luxembourg is bigger in Space than on Earth! When they/we say this we most often point to SES as our best example, and with very good reason. Founded in 1985 with decision and funding from the government of Pierre Werner, SES is housed in Chateau Betzdorf, the ancestral and birth home of our Grand Duke to provide telecommunications services within Luxembourg and into adjacent countries. It has grown over the years into a global giant with 70 satellites and through them become a telecommunications giant with global reach. It is a national treasure of which we all can be proud.
We wanted to know from Mr. Collar the impact of Covid on this preeminent global space organizations. Please read his insightful interview and hearken to the many wise observations and useful insights contained herein. I have been particularly impressed and pleased to see the excellent balance that SES has maintained during these difficult times between being high tech and high touch. Mr. Collar certainly understands it takes both technology and the teamwork of motivated people to get the job done in the best possible way. My compliments to Mr. Collar for his leadership and for the high quality of the positive team he leads!
Please also see the several digital events we are proposing for your benefit and enjoyment both here in Luxembourg and with our partner in New York, LACCNYC. Of particular interest, I encourage you to sign up for the excellent Corporate Tax Update which will be presented by our impressive AMCHAM tax committee under the leadership of Bernard David and our Annual Personal Income Tax event undertaken jointly (as every year) with the British Chamber of Commerce and featuring Laura Folds, the founder and head of AMALIE tax here in Luxembourg. I consider both events to be important must-watch events… I hope you feel the same way and join us.
I would like to express my deep appreciation and very special thanks to all of our AMCHAM members for their overwhelming support for our (very!) late notice black-tie Thanksgiving dinner event. In one week’s time, we are completely sold out! My heartfelt thanks to all of our Sponsoring Partners, our Corporate table holders, and our individual committed guests. We promise you: great Networking with wonderful people, abundant tasty food and drinks, great musical entertainment, as last time… the group photo booth experience, just a few words of thanks, a few special surprises, and dancing until your feet hurt! For those who we do not have space to serve this year, we promise we will offer early registration in the New Year for an even bigger and more Gala Thanksgiving dinner next year on Friday, 25 November 2022 in the already booked Cercle Cite Gala Ballroom in the center of the city.
We have also been asked if we are willing to put on a Winter Carnival or Valentines’ day dance party. If you want it, we will do it! So, please send an email to Jane@amcham.lu and let us know if this idea for February adventure and romance interests you. Like I said… if you want it, we will do it! And let us also know if there are other events you want to see us do…or if you have other ideas you want us to consider!
Last but not least, this issue of our newsletter features a wonderful honey-glazed carrot recipe, perfect for your home thanksgiving (and for making sure you maintain good eyesight!). And, as always, if you know someone who would benefit from getting this Newsletter, it is free for the asking… but because of GDPR rules, you have to go to https://www.amcham.lu/ (scroll down the page to register).
