Dear AmCham Members, Partners, newsletter readers,
On behalf of our AmCham Luxembourg family, I join the government and inhabitants of Luxembourg, and all friends of the Luxembourg Royal Family to congratulate Grand Duke Guillaume on his assumption of the duties, responsibilities and title as Grand Duke of Luxembourg replacing his father, Grand Duke Henri, the much respected and deeply loved leader of Luxembourg for the past 25 years.
To commemorate and honor this occasion, in this issue of our AmCham newsletter we have replaced our normal interview of the week with two YouTube videos. The first is the official video recording of ceremonial abdication of Grand Duke Henri followed by the investiture of Grand Duke Guillaume. The second video is a history of the Royal Family of Luxembourg. We hope you will enjoy and find both videos useful.
I found it particularly notable that this weekend of celebration was executed with such a positive tone. This was a joyous event without any criticism or complaints. No calls to turn Luxembourg into a republic, no politics, just expressions of respect and love from all levels of society and from all of our neighbors. It was a pleasure to be part of!
As the weekend settled down on Sunday, I decided with Angela Nickel, the CEO of COMO and our AmCham Exco member and Digital Committee chairperson, to have Sunday lunch together. For ease of parking access, we decided to try the Marriott Hotel Alfa at the train station. This proved to be an excellent choice! We were impressed by the Art Deco ambience, the high standard and friendliness of the service, and the excellence of the food preparation by their kitchen. Angela had fish which she lauded as perfectly cooked and I had the best steak I have ever had in Luxembourg! At the end we had chocolate cake with homemade vanilla ice cream. I do not make a habit of praising restaurants, but this was really an exceptional meal in all ways, which will likely be soon repeated in the near future. Special thanks to Stefania who went out of her way making sure we were happy and well satisfied guests!
As you probably have seen already in the media on Wednesday, the US Senate confirmed the appointment of Ms.Stacey Woolf Feinberg as our new US Ambassador to Luxembourg. She is a businesswoman who supports women’s entrepreneurship but also being an entrepreneur, investor and a very good communicator. We are very much looking forward welcoming her to Luxembourg and giving her all our support in her new assignment.
I hope you enjoy the rest of this newsletter. As you will see, with our Member Benefits Club, our food recipe, and especially our announcement of upcoming events, we are a very busy team working hard to serve our local and international community and promote the needs of the business and international communities we proudly represent.
My respect and kindest regards,
Paul Schonenberg
