Dear AmCham Members, Partners and Friends,
Welcome to your AmCham Newsletter 171 dated 13 March 2025. We are happy to serve you. Please feel free to share this Newsletter with your colleagues and friends… And encourage them to join AmCham.lu, the largest and most active English speaking International Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg. We are 30% US member companies, 20% Luxembourg origin companies and 50% companies from other countries around the world. Contact me at Paul@amcham.lu to learn more.
Please note that I have replaced my normal Chairman’s remark photo this week with a photo of Ambassador Vladimir Bärtl sitting at his desk in Brussels after assuming his new position as the Czech Ambassador to the European Commission and NATO. Myself and all of his and our joint friends here in Luxembourg miss him and he has said he misses us too! If you look closely you can see that he is holding in his lap a copy of the vintage Czech/English language book I gave him as a going away present and as an expression of my respect and appreciation for his values and service. The book in photos and text chronicles the story of intrusive secret service surveillance and interrogation during the period of the Russian control of the Czech Republic. We who are blessed to live in freedom and prosperity in democracies must never forget that freedom requires defense, but is worthy of work and sacrifice to ensure it persists in this difficult world in which we all live!
Our video this week is a music video. We have picked a great duet featuring “Bridge over Troubled Water”. I ask you to think of current circumstances when you listen to this video. As I often say , and absolutely mean, the United States of America is the best friend of Luxembourg now and for many years. United together and with our other friends and allies we have built an unequaled level of local and global prosperity and freedom for ourselves and those we care about. I hope together we all can continue…” to make it happen”!
I am very pleased in our interview section of this week to give space and present a small pop-up store made by one of our members, Elena Gromova, focused on designer raincoats and other fashion apparel and accessories. This interview talks about what she had to do to launch a pop-up store and the challenges of being an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy thing to do and my hat goes off to the ladies who have made this happen! We will enjoy an “After Work Drinks” event at this store later in the month on the 21st of March. Please see the event sign up announcement and then register to join us!
Please enjoy all of our other content and, most especially, the cooking recipe article by Bibi Wintersdorf and her Kachen team!
My respect and very best regards,
Paul Schonenberg
