Dear AmCham members, partners and friends,
Welcome to the 191th issue of your AmCham Newsletter. We are very pleased to serve you!
Last week we were very happy to have our fourth After-Work-Drinks event with SUMO and his two fellow-street-artist partners, SPIKE and STICK at their new gallery a short walk from the Luxembourg Gare. We have loved and followed SUMO for several years after first meeting and becoming acquainted with him at one of the annual GSK Law firm meet-the-artist events at their offices in Kirchberg. His passion and creativity inspire with amazing power and creativity, and through it all he is a great down-to-earth friendly and happy guy who loves people! Over the evening more than 75 guests walked through the gallery talking together and with the three artists while enjoying the art with a glass of wine in their hands! We were also happy at one point to introduce the new 30-year retrospective book of artworks that SUMO and his friends are just launching, conveniently coinciding with the Christmas holiday gift giving season (hint, hint for a Christmas gift for special friends who are hard to buy for)! Enjoy the accompanying photo album of the event.
This week we are honored to share with you our feature interview with Joanne Olivier, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Madam Ambassador has impressed with her warm and engaging personality wrapped around a strong and insightful mind. She will serve her country very well and be a pleasure for all who have the opportunity to engage with her. I know you will enjoy reading her interview!
Our cooking recipe from Bibi Wintersdorf this week is an amazing Roasted Pork with Sultana-Stuffed Apples, a perfect Fall weather treat! Our thanks to Bibi and her wonderful team at KACHEN/Lux Taste & Style!
My thanks to Daniel McKenzie, Anne Perä and Sonja Holper for persevering and building an amazing November calendar of high-quality events which you will find promoted later on in this Newsletter.
My AmCham EU colleagues and our AmCham.lu team are pleased to see the near panic experienced by some journalists, politicians and normal citizens alike are gently calming down as they come to realize, accept and believe that the United States is not abandoning Europe or Ukraine. NATO has been further strengthened and is stronger than ever in the face of Russian aggression. F-16 aircraft permanently stationed across the border at Spangdahlem air base in Germany by Bitburg continue to deploy and fly NATO missions from a Romanian air force base in southern Romania. USAF A-10 tank-killing aircraft recently deployed to Poland causing quite some shock to Belarus and Russia and similar deployments of the most performant US air force assets have demonstrated the strong US commitments of support to Finland and the Nordic countries. America is very happy that our European NATO allies have committed to being stronger partners in our common defense, but our commitment remains steadfast and unswerving to be with and for our allies to ensure the common good and defend our shared values and mutual prosperity and freedom.
And through this all, the US remains the fourth most important trade and investment partner for Luxembourg, a critical ally in Manufacturing, Financial activities, Space, Defense, AI and throughout Digital activities. We look forward to sharing this mutual success story of American economic interests here in Luxembourg and Luxembourg economic interests in the United States at our upcoming Transatlantic Trade and Investment event with our friends from AmCham EU. While this upcoming event hosted by Deloitte at their Cloche d’Or headquarters upcoming on an evening in mid- November is already sold out, waiting room signups are still possible by writing to Daniel@amcham.lu.
If your company is not yet an AmCham.lu member, please know that we are a melting pot organization composed of 30% US company affiliates, 20% best-of-Luxembourg origin companies and 50% companies working in Luxembourg who come from all over the world. Our focus is helping and supporting honest, hard-working, quality, internationally focused companies and their employees regardless of their country of origin. We do this by putting on about 40 large, medium and small events a year. We also provide information about how Luxembourg works to help companies engage with the right decision makers and avoid dealing with the wrong decision makers. We also find or develop solutions to solve the problems faced by international companies and their employees and we lobby with the government to explain and advocate for the needs of the expat business community and their partners. We put on great events but also take on problems and get things done. If I have tweaked your interest, you want to know more and may be interested to join us, please know you will be warmly welcomed and well-treated. Contact me at Paul@AmCham.lu. My team and I will be happy to further explain what we do to help and support companies and people like you.
My respect and kindest regards,
Paul Schonenberg
