Dear AmCham Members, Partners, and Friends,
We are very pleased by the strong and positive response we have had to our affordable business housing event two weeks ago at EY and fully commit our energy and efforts to make solutions happen for this critical business need. Watch this space for further future updates!
I was very pleased last week to join Yves Stein, the CEO of Edmond de Rothschild, for a private lunch with him and several of his key team members. Mr. Stein also serves as the President of the ABBL and a large part of our conversation focused on discussing the challenges faced by the Luxembourg business and financial communities, our government counterparts and the broader Luxembourg society. I am hopeful to identify possible solutions and explore opportunities for partnership. I thank Mr. Stein for welcoming me and Sonja Holper for this excellent lunch conversation and look forward to developing and implementing partnered solutions to serve our shared business constituents and the Luxembourg state.
Last week Daniel McKenzie and I joined an excellent 20-year celebration party for the DSM Avocats á la Cour law firm on Wednesday evening! Mario De Stefano, the managing partner (and the respected chair of our AmCham Real-Estate committee!), brought much laughter to his invited guests by employing his well-known wit to make a bit of fun about using AI to write his celebration speech. The celebration party saw a very solid gathering of a high-quality business crowd who all enjoyed the excellent food, drink and enthusiastic networking. Well done, Mario and team DSM!
Our newsletter feature interview for this week is with Stefan Ziegenhagen, the hard-working and very dedicated Chairman of the Board of Directors of the St George’s International School in Hamm. This English-language and English-curriculum private school is a significant asset to Luxembourg constituting, along with the International School of Luxembourg (ISL), the two most preferred solutions for expat English-speaking parents seeking the best possible education for their children. While we have great appreciation for Minister Meisch, teachers and staff of the Luxembourg Ministry of Education, we nonetheless also are aware that the education model of the Luxembourg School system embraces multi-lingual educating in Luxembourgish, French, German and English. The Luxembourg approach makes perfect sense in a small country bordered by larger countries speaking different languages and is perfect for students born in this country or entering schools at a very early age. However, this multi-lingual approach creates a very high barrier of entry for older children who do not know and speak all these languages when they arrive in Luxembourg accompanying their parents who come to Luxembourg to work in international companies. To help overcome these educational challenges and by offering a high- quality solution, St George’s supports the attractiveness of Luxembourg enabling the recruitment of the well-educated and highly skilled senior staff employee needed by our large international business sector of Luxembourg. Stefan does a very good job presenting St George’s. Please read and enjoy his interview!
Still during the month of October, we are pleased to offer to our AmCham members the possibility to join the Indian Cultural Association’s Diwali festival at the same price as their own members. Please see the further details below.
