Autotouring magazine reinvents itself to better meet the expectations of its members
For almost nine decades, Autotouring has held a special place within ACL club.
With a print run of over 141,000 copies four times a year, the magazine has become a Luxembourg reference.
In 2025, ACL wanted to develop this publication to meet the expectations of its members, 76% of whom recently considered the magazine to be a serious and credible publication.
‘ The aim is to make the magazine more modern and attractive. With such a high circulation, which is sent to almost one in two households in Luxembourg, the challenge is to succeed in attracting a wide range of members with diverse interests. That’s why we cover a wide range of subjects, from the evolution of the car to cycling, motorcycling and mobility in the broadest sense,’ explains Miriam Eisenmenger, CEO of ACL.
The first edition of the year has a new look, with a harder cover, a modern spine and fresh graphics inside. ‘Particular attention has been paid to making the magazine easier to read, with more airy articles, improved readability and a clear hierarchy of information,’ explains Miriam Eisenmenger.
Involving members
Following consultation with members, who provided almost 1,500 constructive comments, some pages have been redesigned to improve both content and form. ‘One of the major changes is the increased use of images to highlight our content. Whether we’re talking about tests, major features or travel, visuals now take centre stage, while text invites reflection and discovery. We want to make reading our magazine a real pleasure and a place to switch off,’ explains Vincent Huwer, ACL’s Communications Director.
The emphasis will also be on improving content to maintain the magazine’s role as a national reference on mobility. Another new feature is that members will be able to contribute directly by suggesting topics and articles. ‘The magazine remains first and foremost a club magazine. So it’s essential to give our members a voice and space,’ adds Miriam Eisenmenger.
A magazine that’s expanding online and in English
While paper is still favoured by members, some prefer digital. Aware of changing usage patterns, we are going to improve the online experience with the launch of a dedicated website, autotouring.lu, planned for next spring.
This site, which will initially be open to everyone, will include a selection of the content from the paper version, but will also offer enriched and exclusive content, ranging from article extensions to interactive formats. ‘This will enable us to respond to growing demand for a digital experience, and to make full use of subjects that didn’t always get the space they deserved in the paper version,’ says Vincent Huwer.
It’s also worth noting that, for the first time ever, an English-language version of the magazine will be available, but for the time being only digitally. Autotouring will therefore be available in French, German and English.
‘The magazine has come a long way since it was first published in 1937, and especially since Auto-Route, the forerunner of Autotouring, was published in 1955. Like ACL, the magazine must move with the times, and we hope that it will remain true to its mission: to inform, inspire and support our members in all aspects of their mobility. I hope you enjoy reading it,’ concludes Miriam Eisenmenger.
