Dear AMCHAM Members, Partners, Readers and Friends,
Welcome to the 150th edition of our AMCHAM Digital Newsletter!
Last week was quite busy in Luxembourg with several special events which I would especially like to mention. First, Julie Becker and her entire team did a brilliant job putting on the 2024 Stock Exchange day at the Philharmonie. Following excellent welcoming remarks by opening speaker and LuxSE Chairman Alain Kinsch, Finance Minister Gilles Roth gave a strong update to the guests on the actions of the new government to move our society forward into a future of prosperity with fairness. We are all very lucky to have such a strong Finance Minister who is so passionate, dedicated and hard working! Following Minister Roth, LuxSE CEO Julie Becker likewise spoke from her heart without notes giving a moving presentation and then successively interviewing three excellent financial sector leaders which included: Miao Li, Head of Debt Capital Markets at Banque à Internationale Luxembourg (BIL), John Penning, Managing Director of Luxempart and Marjut Falkstedt, CEO of the European Investment Fund (EIF). Closing out the speeches, keynote speaker and Futurologist Magnus Lindqvist gave a very interesting (and entertaining!) talk about AI and the future. All of this was followed by a wonderful networking cocktail and walking dinner. In my opinion, this was the best LuxSE day reception event I have attended! My compliments to President Kinsch, CEO Becker the entire LuxSE team for this wonderful evening!
This past Friday evening our AmCham member company, Redwire, recently celebrated by a biennial Gala Dinner in New York in the presence of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel as the Luxembourg Company of the Year, hosted a celebration of their five years in Luxembourg with a dinner party in Clausen which I was honored to attend. In addition to their own staff, they invited many of the leaders of space industries in Luxembourg. It was a great party, which even included a giant cake made in the shape of the robotic arm which they produce for use by NASA! I hope to have photos to share with you next week.
Sunday, following the Saturday night fireworks celebration honoring the Grand Duke’s birthday, I was pleased to be an honored guest attending the Te Deum church service at the Luxembourg Cathedral. The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess were joined by the Hereditary Grand Duke and his wife, two of his three brothers, and his sister with her husband. Prime Minister Frieden and his wife led the government followed by Deputy Prime Minister Bettel with his husband, their Ministers, significant Mayors and civil servants, the major resident international Ambassadors and then private sector leader guests, followed by the general public. Cardinal Hollerich made a special point to greet and speak with each member of the Royal family. It was a very moving event, which I very much enjoy attending every year.
This week, our guest interviewee, is Analia Clouet, Secretary General at Banque Raiffeisen. We were very pleased to have had the opportunity to introduce her to you all as one of our guest panel members this year in March for our International Woman’s day celebration at PwC. Her wisdom and insight on the Luxembourg financial sector and especially matters related to diversity management in business are exceptional and we are honored to share this interview with you. Please enjoy!
Also included in this Newsletter please enjoy the other news articles and information, our upcoming event announcements, the latest MBC news updates and the wonderful recipe from Bibi Wintersdorf!
With all respect and kindest regards,
Paul Schonenberg
