Dear AMCHAM members, partners and friends,
On behalf of Team AMCHAM, I am pleased to wish you all good health, happiness and success during the new year!
Since this is our first Newsletter for 2024, we offer to you two special pieces of content in this issue.
Our first offering is a video summary highlighting some of the notable significant events of last year. We are proud of what we did to inform, promote and support you last year (and hope you are happy with us for what we did!!)
Our second offering replaces our normal weekly VIP interview with a copy of the four page letter we sent just prior to the Christmas break to our new Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and the principal Ministers in the new government. This letter identifies the eight most important initiatives we hope the new Government will accept are worth fighting for and making part of the government’s 2024 policy plan… and the two initiatives we will strongly oppose because we believe they will harm the business community and make Luxembourg less attractive as a business location.
Don’t get me wrong. We love and are committed to Luxembourg and want this wonderful country and its people to succeed at all levels. We also firmly believe that the now and future success of Luxembourg can only be achieved and assured if the economy is strong; stronger than recently has been the case, and if the best interests of the expat community and the foreign companies are appreciated, respected and fairly supported by sound government policies.
So via this four page letter we have presented our case to preserve, protect your best interests. The content of this letter has been developed out of our committees and discussions across the full scope of our AMCHAM constituency. We present it to you so you know what we have been fighting for in service to you, and will continue to fight for you throughout this coming year. We hope we have gotten this right and respectfully request your return feedback to me at Paul@amcham.lu. In addition, if there are other things you want, or on which you have opinions you want us to hear and pay attention to, please tell us!
On Monday 29 January, we will host our annual New Year’s reception at Spuerkeess headquarters, 19 Avenue de la Liberté. We are honored to have this support from Spuerkeess in partnership with Amazon which is providing the event catering. Our Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel will be joined by U.S. Ambassador Thomas Barrett as our two guests of honor and featured speakers. This is a sold out event with a great list of attendees and a reserve list of additional potential attendees we will do our best to accommodate. I sincerely thank all of you who have signed up to join us and look forward to having a wonderful evening with you all.
We are also excited to be joining the Indian Chamber of Commerce for their upcoming business event on Wednesday 24 January which will be moderated by Mario de Stefano, the founder and managing partner of DSM law, who also is the Chair of our AMCHAM Real Estate Committee. Please see the addition information on this event later in this Newsletter.
You will find a lot of good content following. We are doing our very best to keep you informed. Please feel free to send your business news announcements to communication@amcham.lu. Please remember our Newsletter is free as a public service with no AMCHAM membership required (but certainly appreciated!). Please (assuming you like our Newsletter content!) tell your friends and help them to sign up to get our free Newsletter (and likewise encourage them to talk to us about joining AMCHAM and becoming part of our wonderful family! Write to me at Paul@amcham.lu for more information).
With all respect and very best wishes,
Paul Schonenberg
