Dear AmCham members, partners, and friends,
We warmly welcome you to our 209th AmCham Digital Newsletter edition. We sincerely hope our English language content informs, nourishes and amuses your mind (and your stomach with our great Kachen recipe for a snow pea sushi bowl)!
My compliments again to Mario di Stefano and his team at DSM Avocats à la Cour for their excellent pro Luxembourg business conference two weeks ago at the Meliá Hotel. They hosted 60 lawyers from all over the planet broadly collectively sharing legal knowledge and perspectives and doing it in a very skillful way which showpieced the value of Luxemburg as an internation business location. At the same time, the Meliá Hotel did an impressive job as a business venue, likewise conveying a very good impression of Luxembourg as an ideal international business location in the heart of Europe. I was honored to be included as a keynote speaker and have already enthusiastically connected with participants from China, Saudi Arabia and the USA who have reached out to me to further discuss establishing subsidiaries or partnership arrangements including Luxembourg. Kudos to DSM Avocats à la Cour and the Meliá Hotel!
Compliments also to GSK Stockmann for their excellent 20th anniversary celebration last week which attracted a very engaging, high-quality crowd!
Very moving speech by John Psaila for the Indian Business Chamber of Luxembourg evening event hosted by Deloitte this past week too. We in AmCham are friends with the Indian Business Chamber of Luxembourg and enjoy attending their events and having them attend our events as well. And if you missed our interview with Mr. Psaila from last week, please find it again HERE.
Finally, last week I was very pleased to attend the new building launch ceremony and 35th anniversary celebration for the St Georges School in Hamm (please see photographs and reportage HERE). The new multi-use facility houses classrooms and testing rooms along with a sports facility gymnasium and is names after Elsy Jacobs a Luxembourg woman bicyclist of considerable local renown who fought to allow women to be competitive athletes at a time when women were pushed to live in very confined and unfairly restricted circumstances. Last year I, completed 10 years of service on the St Georges Board of Directors, the maximum allowed service length, but now continue to serve on the BOD’s senior advisory committee. I am proud of what the school does to nourish and educate their students and especially proud of the values of the school which promote and encourage: Courage; Honesty; Kindness; Respect; and Wisdom. This school does a terrific job developing strong and well-rounded leaders and citizens fully able to find their place being individually successful while contributing through these shared values to build a better world. Before the end of this year, we will do a full interview with St Georges to tell you more.
Instead of publishing one of our normal feature interviews, this week you will find an essay analyzing and explaining why we have a housing crisis in Luxembourg and gently suggesting a path forward to mitigate some of the pain based on a changed approach which we hope the government will adapt. If the current housing crisis impacts you, your companies and those you love, I sincerely encourage you to read this essay and share it with your colleagues and friends. I will be honored for you to send me your thoughts as well by writing to me at Paul@amcham.lu
My fullest respect and very kindest regards,
Paul
