Dear AmCham members, partners, friends,
Welcome and warmest greetings to the April 23rd 208th edition of your AmCham Newsletter!
We are very pleased to share with you this week an interview with John Psaila, the managing partner of Deloitte who is in the process of shortly finishing his long-term mandate of service and extraordinary leadership! Considering the size and importance of Deloitte here in Luxembourg, Mr. Psaila has had a broad view and involvement in the development of the Luxembourg economic ecosystem. Likewise, he has led with considerable wisdom, insight, and skill the very solid growth of a very large internationally focused service company with a global audience. Lastly, Mr. Psaila has a considerable reputation for kindness, sensitivity and fairness which has endeared him to both clients and staff alike. For all of these reasons, we are very pleased he has agreed to share his wisdom and experiences with our AmCham audience to pass along this invaluable knowledge and understanding. Thank you John for sharing and speaking to us from your heart!
As you all know, AmCham is non-partisan but pro-business. We do not criticize or pass along judgements about individual politicians. Instead, we focus on advocating for economic prosperity. In this regard we are focused both locally here in Luxembourg and more broadly on the Transatlantic business ecosystem including all of its partners. Every year, we partner and financially support the creation of a Transatlantic trade and investment analysis report with six other AmChams in Europe, led by the AmCham accredited to the European Commission. Several weeks ago, I joined an annual meeting on this subject in Brussels at AmCham EU headquarters during which there was considerable discussion about the long delay by the European Parliament voting adoption of the Turnberry agreement made between US President Trump and EU President von der Leyen last July in Scotland. The purpose of this agreement was to limit the risk of tariff escalations and promote some measure of stabilization of the trading relations between Europe and the United States. The US Ambassador to the EU during his speech to all of the AmCham Chairmen and Presidents urged us all to reach out and contact our national elected representatives to the European Parliament to explain to them why it would be wise and beneficial for them to ratify this agreement. In response, I did exactly that and have been pleased for the very first time to correspond with the elected Luxembourg representatives to the European Parliament. I am likewise very pleased that my AmCham EU colleagues and I have played our role and achieved success with the European Parliament ratifying this agreement. Please see the press release article published in this Newsletter from Malte Lohan the President of AmCham EU announcing this legislative enactment of the Turnberry agreement!
We currently have four events posted on our website and upcoming events below with at least two more in works. One will be the “Din and Tonics” chorale group from Harvard University after works drinks event and the other will be our annual Fall Transatlantic trade and investment analysis report presentation. I hope both of these events will be sufficiently prepared to be formally announced next week. To be clear, our goal is to offer you all at least one networking event per month (except perhaps in August when such a large number of people are away on holiday!) .
Our food offering this week is a delightful “Strawberry and Mascarpone Dessert in a Glass” from our dear friends at Kachen. Make and enjoy!!!
Last week a great American Business Award & Gala Dinner was held in New York, which was attended by Grand Duke Guillaume, Deputy Prime Minister Bettel, Finance Minister Roth, Luxembourg Ambassador to the US Bintner-Bakshian, Ambassador Ferring and it was especially nice to see Ambassador Feinberg in a red dress in the middle of the photo as she published on social media at the beginning of this week. Our sister organization LACCNYC, and their Executive Director Toni Dudsak, did a great job putting on this event! Please see her short article and photos later on in this newsletter.
See us next week for this and other more interesting news!
My respect and very best wishes,
Paul Schonenberg
