Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna joined us and our partner organizations on 7 December 2016 to preview the Luxembourg Government national budget for the new year and to visit with our members who make such an important contribution to the economic success of Luxembourg.

On 18 November 2016, the AMCHAM community gave thanks to our Luxembourg hosts, the Luxembourg Government and indeed the collective international community for the good life we live here in this beautiful and welcoming country in the heart of Europe. We were honored by the presence of the presence of guest speaker Mr. Claude Wiseler, H.E. Ambassador David McKean, H.E. John Marshall, H.E. Ambassador Thomas Antoine and Honorary Ambassador Guy de Muyser.

On 8 November 2016 at AUTOPOLIS Bertrange, Minister of Justice Félix Braz, explained the rules for setting up and managing the new 1.1.1. Company entity; Mr. Carlo Thelen, the General Director of the Chamber of Commerce introduced the House of Entrepreneurship - One-Stop Shop initiative and Mr. Karl Horsburgh, Director at B.U.R.O.S., continued with a presentation on taxation for micro and small companies.

On 13 October AMCHAM's Real Estate Committee organized their second 2016 event at PwC Luxembourg. We've heard about the latest real estate trends and developments for the Luxembourg market from the Minister for Housing Marc Hansen who gave the opening keynote address. His intervention was followed by a round table discussion having as participants Mario Di Stefano (Partner, DSM Di Stefano Moyse), Georges Berna (Partner, Property S.A.), Alexandre Jaumotte (Partner, PwC Luxembourg), Severine Moca (Director, PwC), Frédéric Wersand (Partner, PwC Luxembourg), John Ravoisin (Partner, PwC Luxembourg).

Christine Bovi (SIP) and Kasia Kolo (Social media expert) were our guest speakers on 11 October for the Twitter Workshop,  moderated by Geoff Thompson, Editor of The Luxembourg Chronicle.

Art du Temps Gallery, in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg and BMW Bilia-Emond organized on 24 September an event around the the exhibition of works of the American illustrator and artist E.B. Lewis, French painter Laurent Dauptain and French sculptor Frédéric Lange.

The Workshop took place on 13 July and looked at using Facebook to market one's organisation, products and services, showing how important it is to be clear on the story you want to tell. It addressed setting (realistic) goals, identifying what one wants to achieve, bearing in mind the resources available to invest in this marketing channel, and focusing on building brand recognition, driving sales, driving recruitment, etc.

On 26 June 2016 AMCHAM welcomed HR professionals and private individuals to a presentation on health care and private pensions in Luxembourg. We were honored to welcome as guest speakers: Paul Schmit and Jérôme Roux from the Caisse Nationale de Santé, Thomas Merten and Cécilia Gourlaouen from Foyer and Patrick Schomaker from Luxembourg Air Rescue.

Sandra Sidon and Nathalie De Kerchove exposed the advantages of using a confidential, informal and voluntary approach like mediation in the workplace.

The Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (MENJE) has reassessed the potential need for English schooling within the public education system in Luxembourg and after launching two questionnaires for the second time at the end of 2015: one aimed at HR divisions within companies and one for employees and parents in general.On 11 April 2016, our guest speaker, Ms. Louise Crosby, presented the results of these two surveys.

RiskMap is Control Risks' annual publication and provides organizations with an in-depth analysis on major risks that organizations may face in the year ahead. At AMCHAM’s ABAL Lunch on 14 March Control Risks’ Director, Jonathan Wood provided an overview of the key themes that are likely to dominate global politics and business throughout 2016.

Anti-terrorist expert Jean Labrique was AMCHAM’s guest speaker on 9 March. Mr. Labrique is currently Secretary General of Western Defense Studies Institute, a think tank organization based in Rome, focused on Homeland Security, Criminal Investigations, Counter-Terrorism, and Crisis-Management. Mr. Labrique talked about the impact of Terrorism on business.

On 3 March, Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna was the guest of honor and key note speaker  for an AMCHAM Tax Committee event on EU and global tax harmonization and its impact on Luxembourg. With 140 guest in the Audience in the conference room at Banque de Luxembourg, AMCHAM Chairman, Paul Schonenberg praised the Minister for his world view, strategic thinking and ability to find fair and balanced solutions for Luxembourg, the citizens and the companies. Minister Gramegna responded by echoing these themes and additionally explaining the government proposals for tax reductions for both companies and individuals impacting all tax payers except those with the highest incomes. Next on the program were a specialist tax presentations and a panel discussion all moderated by Frank Muntendam the Chairman of the AMCHAM tax Committee followed by a networking cocktail.

On February 25th 2016, AMCHAM's Real Estate Committee organized the event "Real Estate in Luxembourg: what you should know, what's new" with the following four guest speakers Mr. Jean Paul Scheuren, President of the CIGDL, Mr. Mario Di Stefano, Manager Partner of DSM Law, Mrs. Nicole Avez-Nana, Director at AB-Lux Relocation Services and Mrs. Camilla Cuppini, Communications Director at Just Arrived. The event was held at the Hotel Sofitel Kirchberg.

On February 1st 2016, Mr. Raymond Lang and Mr. Martial Beguin from Vanbreda & Lang spoke shared insights on " CEO’s and Director’s Liability". The ABAL Luncheon was held at the Hotel Parc-Alvisse in Luxembourg-Dommeldange.

On January 26th, AMCHAM held "New year's Reception and Book Launch Party" at the Cercle Cité. More than 500 guests attended the event, among which were Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, Luxembourg Employment Minister Nicolas Schmit and former Economy Minister Jeannot Krecké.
